New Vice-President for DFK Asia Pacific

DFK International’s Annual Conference marked a changing of the guards for the Asia Pacific region as Paul Fiumara took over as vice-president.

Paul, partner at accountancy firm DFK Hirn Newey in Brisbane, has been a member of DFK for more than 25 years.

He officially took the reins as vice-president at DFK International’s Annual Conference in Oahu, Hawaii, succeeding Navin Patel, partner at DFK Oswin Griffiths Carlton based in Auckland.

Paul said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed vice-president of the Asia Pacific region, it is a huge honour.

“I have been with DFK for well over 25 years and it is a very important part of my life, so it is excellent to be given the opportunity to try and lead the region to greater things.

“I know a lot of member firms across the region and I will be looking to strengthen these relationships further during my term as vice-president.

“Contact, communication and collaboration are principles I have always gone by and would like to see more of in our region.

“I’m a strong believer in collaboration, and if we harness our collective strengths we will be able to work together to deliver at a higher level for our clients.”

Paul added that he will also be advising member firms on changes in the profession.

“Our profession is at the cusp of some major changes,” he said.

“The role of technology is one of these changes and is having a significant effect on the field. I want to help member firms deal with these changes and advise on how they can assist their clients.”

Navin, who was vice-president of the Asia Pacific region for six years, has welcomed Paul and thanked those who have supported him during his term.

He said: “I would like to welcome Paul as the incoming vice-president for the region. I am very confident that with his high energy level, business acumen and in depth IT knowledge he will make a great contribution to the region and to DFK International.

“I would also like to thank my family, partners and team at DFK Oswin Griffiths Carlton and in particular the members of DFK Asia Pacific executive committee for their advice, support and contribution during my term as vice-president.

“I believe that DFK International and the Asia Pacific region will expand with the planned growth of current members businesses as well as new memberships.

“All members should be encouraged to grow their businesses and discuss and share the factors that result in growth at conferences.

“Over my term I have noticed that bringing younger partners provides new strategies and increased level of energy within the firms and also provides better financial outcomes for retiring partners.

“I have also noted that our ability to understand and accept the cultural and commercial differences and focus on the common acceptable factors has been very beneficial.

“Going forward, I would urge all members to look into what they can do to improve the profile of their business and that of DFK within their countries and region.”

Martin Sharp, executive director of DFK International, said: “I would like to pay tribute to Navin for his term of office, during which time he set clear strategic direction for the region and contributed diligently and with vision to development of DFK International overall.

“I know that Paul will bring enormous energy and his considerable experience to the position and I look forward to working with him in his new role.”
